A separate transaction fee will be charged for online payments:
10,000 Yen–42,000 Yen → +330 Yen
56,000 Yen or 65,000 Yen → +550 Yen
Regarding this fee revision, the Immigration Services Agency of Japan explains that the new fees were determined by comprehensively taking into account not only the actual costs required for processing applications, but also the costs necessary for immigration and residence management, fees for similar procedures in other countries, and expected future price increases.
The additional revenue generated by the higher fees is expected to be used for initiatives including the digital transformation (DX) of immigration and residence administration, protection and support for refugees and others in need, Japanese-language and daily-life learning programs for foreign residents, and improvements to information services and consultation support.
