An Event of Culture, Friendship, and the Future
This weekend, Yoyogi Park in Tokyo was filled with excitement at the China Festival 2025. With food stalls, music, traditional performances, and a diverse crowd enjoying the lively atmosphere, the park became a hub of cultural exchange.

1) Message from the Organizer
The China Festival is held annually. We asked one of the organizers about their hopes for the event.
Hajime: “What is the main message you want visitors to take away from this festival?”
Organizer: “We want everyone who comes here to have fun and experience something new. There’s food, traditional culture, and also modern pop culture. For example, we have Lolita fashion and even robot exhibits—something for everyone to enjoy.”
Hajime: “For Japanese people and other internationals living in Japan, what do you especially want them to enjoy at this event?”
Organizer: “This year we have the largest number of booths ever—160 in total, and about half are Chinese food. ‘Authentic Chinese cuisine’ has become very popular in Japan, and here you can try genuine flavors as well as Instagram-friendly small plates. We also have exhibitors from Shanghai and Zhejiang introducing the latest cultural trends.”
Hajime: “Are there opportunities for exchange beyond the festival itself?”
Organizer: “The festival itself happens once a year, but we also host student exchange programs and China exchange events from time to time. And the festival is supported by many volunteers—about half Japanese, half Chinese. Some join because they want to practice Chinese, others to make friends. And many of those friendships last long after the festival.”
Hearing how Japanese and Chinese volunteers deepen their connections, I felt it was truly inspiring. Getting to know and understand each other better—this is the foundation of true coexistence.
If you’re reading this, why not join such an event and build new friendships yourself?

2) Voice of an Entrepreneur: Mr. Xia
After completing his Ph.D. in Japan, Mr. Xia founded his own company (Global Project) in the spring of 2024. His business focuses on cultural exchange between China and Japan, mainly through music and events.
Here are some highlights from our short interview at the festival:
Hajime: “Why did you decide to start a business in Japan?”
Xia: “I’ve always loved music and wanted to create events. My goal was to introduce Chinese pop culture to Japan, while also bringing Japanese music and culture that young people love to China. That’s why I launched my company in spring 2024.”
Hajime: “That’s impressive! What keeps you motivated?”
Xia: “I grew up listening to Japanese music, which was a big reason I came here. Japan has its strengths, and so does China. I believe combining them creates more exciting and powerful opportunities.”
Hajime: “How about daily life in Japan—outside of work?”
Xia: “I enjoy the calm and peaceful lifestyle here. I like spending time alone, so being able to relax by the seaside is wonderful. I also attend many Japanese music events, not just the ones I organize.”
Hajime: “That sounds fulfilling. Finally, what advice would you give to people who want to work in Japan?”
Xia: “Japan has many rules, and compared to the U.S. or China, things move more slowly. But if you understand and work within those rules, you can find great opportunities. Don’t rush—embrace the culture and take on challenges.”
At this year’s festival, Xia’s company booked four artists, including one Chinese artist based in Japan. His passion to create new cultural fusion between China and Japan was truly impressive—and his smile left a strong impression.
We plan to feature Mr. Xia and his company in greater detail in an upcoming Feature article, so stay tuned!
